At Wide Open Design, precision is everything. Whether we are fabricating a world-class tube chassis or a simple shop component, the equipment we use dictates the quality and consistency of the final product. In this video, we fire up our new Baileigh Industrial CNC Press Brake to fabricate a simple metal trough and demonstrate exactly why CNC control is a game-changer in the shop.
Programming and Production
The goal for this part is a trough with a 2-inch leg bent at a 45-degree angle, and a 1.5-inch leg bent at a 60-degree angle [00:12].
- Automated Efficiency: The process starts at the control panel, where we write a quick two-step program [00:27]. Once in program mode, the machine takes over the setup. It automatically sets the CNC back gauge, and as soon as the foot pedal is pressed, it executes the first bend [00:50].
- Seamless Transitions: After the first bend is complete, the press brake automatically picks back up and adjusts the machine and backstop for the 60-degree bend [01:04]. This eliminates manual resets, ensuring repeatability if we need to make multiple identical parts.
Measuring the Results
To prove the machine's capabilities, we immediately put the finished trough to the test with a set of calipers and an angle finder. The results speak for themselves:
