LS & LT Engine Thermostats & AN Housings
Build a clean, reliable cooling system for your GM LS or LT engine with performance thermostats and billet AN thermostat housings. Wide Open Design offers LS and LT cooling components for engine swaps, rock crawlers, buggies, race vehicles, and custom builds using high-flow AN coolant plumbing.
Thermostat temperature, coolant line size, housing configuration, radiator design, and system layout all affect how an engine reaches and maintains operating temperature. Choose from 160° and 187° LS thermostats along with -16 AN and -20 AN thermostat housings to match your engine and cooling system plumbing.
| 160° Thermostat | 187° Thermostat | |
|---|---|---|
| Opening Temperature | Begins opening around 160°F | Begins opening around 187°F |
| Engine Warm-Up | Allows coolant circulation sooner | Allows engine to reach a higher temperature before opening |
| Typical Consideration | Performance cooling systems where earlier coolant flow is desired | Applications targeting a warmer operating range |
| Selection Depends On | Engine calibration, cooling-system design and intended use | Engine calibration, cooling-system design and intended use |
Tech Note: A lower-temperature thermostat does not increase radiator cooling capacity or automatically fix an overheating engine. The thermostat controls when coolant begins flowing through the radiator; overall cooling capacity depends on the complete system.
