The coil slider separates the upper and lower springs in a dual-rate suspension system and moves freely on the shock body as the suspension cycles. Once it reaches the crossover stop, the tender spring is effectively taken out of the system, allowing the main spring to control the remainder of the suspension travel.
Shock travel determines which slider configuration is required. Using the proper Long / Long or Long / Short slider ensures correct crossover engagement, maintains spring alignment, and allows the suspension to transition smoothly between spring rates.
Inspect the slider whenever servicing your coilovers. Replace it if it shows excessive wear, binding, deformation, or damage that could affect smooth movement along the shock body.
