Tech Insight

1. What is a Dana 60 Inner C?

The inner C is the steering knuckle mounting point welded to the end of a front axle tube. It supports the kingpin or ball joint assembly and serves as the connection point for the steering knuckle. In custom axle builds, Dana 60 Inner C's are commonly used to create stronger front axles for rock crawlers, rock bouncers, Ultra4 cars, mud trucks, and custom off-road vehicles.

2. Why are Crane Axle Dana 60 Inner C's made from chromoly?

Crane Axle Dana 60 Inner C's are manufactured from chromoly steel to provide superior strength and durability compared to factory cast components. Chromoly construction helps resist bending, cracking, deformation under the extreme loads generated by large tires, and provide a stronger foundation for extreme-duty applications.

3. What axle tubes do these Dana 60 Inner C's fit?

These Inner C's are designed for custom axle fabrication and are commonly used with heavy-wall DOM axle tubing. Always verify tube diameter before ordering.

4. Are these Inner C's designed for kingpin or ball joint applications?

These Inner C's are designed for Dana 60 kingpin steering systems. Kingpin setups are widely used because they offer exceptional durability and serviceability.

5. Can these be used on a custom front axle build?

Absolutely. Crane Axle Dana 60 Inner C's are commonly used in custom front axle fabrication for:

  • Rock crawlers
  • Rock bouncers
  • Ultra4 race cars
  • Mud trucks
  • Mega trucks
  • Desert race vehicles
  • Jeep builds
  • Custom tube chassis vehicles

They provide a strong, proven platform for building a heavy-duty steering axle.

6. Do these Inner C's require welding?

Yes. Dana 60 Inner C's are weld-on components that must be properly aligned and welded to the axle tubes during assembly. Proper caster angle, camber alignment, and steering geometry should be established before final welding.
