The seal cap assembly performs multiple critical functions:
- Maintains hydraulic oil sealing around the shaft
- Keeps nitrogen charge separated from oil (where applicable)
- Guides the shaft to prevent side loading
- Protects internal components from contamination
A worn seal head can cause:
- Oil leakage
- Shaft scoring
- Nitrogen pressure loss
- Inconsistent damping performance
When rebuilding shocks, always inspect the shaft for pitting or wear before installing a new seal cap assembly. Installing new seals on a damaged shaft will result in premature failure.
For competitive rock bouncing, Ultra4, or desert use, seal cap assemblies should be inspected during every service cycle.
