The Crane Axle Lightweight Wilwood GM Dana 60 Front Brake Kit - 4-Piston is a lightweight, high-performance disc brake package designed for GM Dana 60 front axles and compatible axles using GM-pattern kingpin knuckles with OE-style 8-lug wheel hubs. Built around Wilwood 4-piston calipers and 13.5" rotors, this system replaces heavy factory-style brakes with a performance-focused package for rock crawlers, Ultra4 cars, trail rigs, and custom off-road builds.

Reducing weight at the wheel end allows the suspension to react more effectively while reducing the rotating mass the brakes and drivetrain have to control. This package saves approximately 36.5 lbs compared with a typical 3/4-ton brake conversion while providing the braking leverage, modulation, and heat capacity needed for large tires and demanding off-road use.

Includes:

  • (2) GM Dana 60 Bolt-On Caliper Brackets
  • (2) Wilwood 4-Piston Calipers
  • (2) 13.5" Wilwood Rotors
  • (2) Crane Axle Brake Hats
  • (1) Set of Brake Pads
  • Caliper Mounting Hardware

FAQ

What axles does this Wilwood brake kit fit?

This kit is designed primarily for GM Dana 60 front axles using GM-pattern kingpin steering knuckles and OE-style 8-lug wheel hubs. It can also be used with compatible custom axle assemblies built around the same GM-pattern kingpin wheel-end configuration.

How much weight does this brake kit save?

The package saves approximately 36.5 lbs compared with a typical 3/4-ton brake conversion. Reducing weight at the wheel end helps decrease unsprung and rotating mass, allowing the suspension to react more effectively over rough terrain.

Why use Wilwood 4-piston calipers?

The Wilwood 4-piston fixed calipers provide consistent clamping force and predictable brake modulation in a compact, lightweight package. This makes them well suited to technical crawling, high-speed off-road driving, and vehicles running large tires.

What size wheels are required?

A 17" or larger wheel is required for clearance around the 13.5" rotor and Wilwood caliper. Actual clearance depends on wheel barrel design and backspacing, so the complete brake and wheel combination should be checked before final assembly.

Does this brake kit require welding?

No. Unlike Crane Axle weld-on rear brake packages, this front brake kit uses bolt-on caliper brackets designed around compatible GM-pattern kingpin knuckles.

Will this fit aftermarket Dana 60 kingpin knuckles?

It is compatible with Crane Axle GM-pattern kingpin knuckles, OEM GM Dana 60 kingpin knuckles, and many aftermarket GM-pattern replacements including Reid Racing and Solid Axle Industries. Verify the specific knuckle and hub configuration before ordering.
