The Wide Open Design GM 14-Bolt Driver Drop Front Axle Truss reinforces driver-side drop 14-Bolt steering axle housings used in high-horsepower off-road and competition builds. Manufactured by Wide Open Design from 1/4" steel plate, the truss is precision cut and contoured around the differential housing to increase weld contact, strengthen the long-side tube area, and reduce housing movement under hard steering, suspension, and drivetrain loads.

Choose a fully welded, made-to-order truss or a flat plate kit for builders who prefer to assemble and weld the structure themselves. Optional suspension and steering tabs can be added to support custom link geometry, shock placement, and hydraulic steering layouts on rock crawlers, rock bouncers, Ultra4 cars, and fabricated tube-chassis vehicles.

A front axle truss connects the differential housing and axle tubes into a more rigid structure. This helps reduce tube flex, housing distortion, and movement where the tubes enter the center section under steering, suspension, and drivetrain loads.

Why is the long side of a driver-drop axle vulnerable?

The longer axle tube has more leverage acting against it during hard landings, side loading, and hydraulic steering input. Reinforcing that area helps reduce bending and supports more consistent axle shaft and steering geometry.

What is the difference between the welded and flat plate options?

The fully welded option arrives assembled and ready for final fitting to the axle housing. The flat plate kit is supplied as individual components for builders who want to control assembly, weld sequence, and integration with their suspension mounts.

Should the truss be installed before suspension brackets?

In most custom builds, it is best to establish axle width, pinion angle, caster, steering placement, and suspension geometry before permanently welding the truss and related brackets. Planning the entire axle package together helps prevent clearance conflicts.

Should this truss be paired with a pinion guard or housing tie-in?

For extreme rock crawling and competition use, a pinion guard and center-section tie-in can provide additional protection and help distribute impact and suspension loads across more of the axle housing.
