The Crane Axle GM Dana 60 Lightweight Wilwood Brake Kit replaces the heavy factory-style 1-ton brake package with a lighter, performance-focused braking system for GM-pattern Dana 60 kingpin axle applications. Built around Wilwood 4-piston calipers and 13.5" rotors, this package reduces unsprung weight while providing the braking control and thermal capacity needed for rock crawlers, Ultra4 cars, trail rigs, and custom off-road builds.

The weld-on system is designed for GM-pattern kingpin knuckles using OE-style 8-lug hubs and is compatible with factory GM knuckles along with many aftermarket replacements. Compared with a typical 3/4-ton brake conversion, the package saves approximately 36.5 lbs, helping the suspension react more effectively while retaining the stopping power required for large tires and demanding terrain.

Includes:

  • (2) GM Dana 60 Weld-On Caliper Brackets
  • (2) Wilwood 4-Piston Calipers

FAQ

How much weight does this Dana 60 brake kit save?

This package saves approximately 36.5 lbs compared with a typical 3/4-ton brake conversion. Reducing unsprung weight allows the suspension to respond more quickly and can improve wheel control over rough terrain.

Will this brake kit fit factory GM Dana 60 kingpin knuckles?

Yes. The kit is designed around GM-pattern Dana 60 kingpin knuckles and OE-style 8-lug hubs. It also works with many aftermarket GM-pattern kingpin knuckles from manufacturers such as Crane Axle, Reid Racing, and Solid Axle Industries.

What size wheels are required with the 13.5" Wilwood rotors?

A 17" or larger wheel is required for rotor and caliper clearance. Actual clearance can vary by wheel design and backspacing, so the complete brake and wheel package should be checked before final assembly.

Why use a 4-piston Wilwood caliper on an off-road Dana 60?

A 4-piston fixed caliper applies more even pressure across the brake pads and provides predictable modulation under changing traction conditions. This is especially useful for technical crawling, high-speed off-road driving, and vehicles running large tires.

Does this Dana 60 brake kit require welding?

Yes. The included 3/8" high-strength steel caliper brackets are weld-on components. Proper bracket positioning and welding are critical to rotor alignment, caliper clearance, and brake performance.
