The Wide Open Design 2.5" Drive Shaft Tubing is built for serious off-road abuse. Using 2.5" x .250 wall DOM steel, this tubing delivers the strength, durability, and weldability required for off-road and rock crawler builds. It is:

  • The same tubing spec used in WOD in-house builds
  • Designed to withstand rock impacts, extreme suspension articulation, and high torque without compromising reliability.
  • Ideal for fabricators who want full control over driveshaft length and fitment.

Included Item:

  • DOM Driveshaft Tubing – 2.5" OD x .250 Wall (1 ft, 2 ft, 3 ft, 4 ft options)
    • One end machined for the weld yoke for 1350 & 1410 tube. 1480 series tube does not come with one end machined.

Tech Insight

1. Why use 2.5" x .250 wall DOM tubing for driveshafts?
This size and wall thickness offer an ideal balance of strength and durability for off-road use. The .250 wall DOM resists denting, bending, and deformation when dragging over rocks or taking hard hits under load—making it a proven choice for rock crawlers and competition rigs.

2. What U-joint sizes does this tubing support?
This tubing is designed to work with 1350 or 1410 series weld yokes, with one end machined for fitment. If you're running a 1480 series, note that the tubing does not come pre-machined and will require additional machining before assembly.

3. Why would I choose raw tubing instead of a complete driveshaft?
Builder tubing gives you full control over length, fitment, and driveline setup, which is critical in custom chassis and buggy builds where standard driveshaft lengths don’t apply. It allows fabricators to cut and build exactly to their application.

4. Is this tubing suitable for high-horsepower or extreme off-road use?
Yes. This is the same tubing spec used in Wide Open Design in-house builds, proven to handle high torque loads, extreme articulation, and harsh trail conditions without compromising reliability.
