Yukon Dana 44 Grizzly Locker - 30 Spline, 3.73 & Down
YGLD44-3-30
The Yukon Grizzly Locker for Dana 44 Axles is an automatic locking differential designed to keep both tires pulling when traction gets tough. Unlike an open differential that can leave one tire spinning, the Grizzly Locker automatically locks both axle shafts together under power to help maintain traction through rocks, mud, steep climbs, and uneven terrain. This version is designed for Dana 44 axles with 30-spline shafts and a 3.73-and-down carrier configuration.
The Grizzly Locker uses a heavy-duty forged case with heat-treated 8620 steel internals and large locking teeth built to handle the shock loads of oversized tires and aggressive off-road driving. It operates mechanically without air compressors, wiring, or switches and allows differential action during turns when conditions permit. Compatible with applicable thick gear configurations, it's a practical traction upgrade for Jeeps, trail rigs, rock crawlers, and custom Dana 44 axle builds.
Includes:
- (1) Yukon Dana 44 Grizzly Locker Assembly
- Fully Assembled Internal Locking Mechanism
Important: This locker is drilled for 7/16" ring gear bolts. Applications using 3/8" ring gear bolts require Yukon YSPBLT-027 bolt sleeves, sold separately.

FAQ
How does the Yukon Grizzly Locker work?
The Grizzly Locker automatically locks both axle shafts together when torque is applied, helping maintain traction when one tire loses grip. During turns, the internal mechanism can allow one wheel to overrun the other, depending on operating conditions. This gives you the traction of a locker without having to manually engage it.
Will this Grizzly Locker fit every Dana 44 axle?
No. This version requires a compatible Dana 44 differential with 30-spline axle shafts and a 3.73-and-down carrier configuration. Dana 44 axles were produced in several different designs, so spline count, gear configuration, and ring gear bolt size must be verified.
Can I use this locker with thick ring and pinion gears?
Yes, in compatible applications. Thick gears allow certain numerically higher gear ratios to be installed on a carrier designed for numerically lower ratios. Verify that your ring and pinion set is specifically designed for the Dana 44 3.73-and-down carrier configuration.
Do I need ring gear bolt sleeves?
If your Dana 44 ring gear uses 3/8" bolts, yes. This locker has 7/16" ring gear bolt holes, so Yukon YSPBLT-027 sleeves are required for compatible 3/8" bolt applications.
Is the Yukon Grizzly Locker selectable?
No. The Grizzly Locker is a fully mechanical automatic locker. It does not require an air compressor, electrical switch, wiring, or air lines. Engagement happens automatically as the drivetrain loads and unloads.
Can I drive a Grizzly Locker on the street?
Yes, in appropriate street-driven applications, but it will behave differently from an open differential. Clicking, driveline feedback, tire scrub, and changes in handling can occur during turns. Front axle applications may also affect steering when four-wheel drive is engaged.
Does this locker replace the factory differential carrier?
Yes. The Yukon Grizzly Locker is a full-case automatic locker that replaces the original differential carrier. It is not a lunchbox locker that installs inside an existing open carrier. Proper bearing preload, backlash, and gear contact pattern must be checked during installation.
