ARB Air Locker for Dana 44 30-Spline Axles – 3.92 & Up
ARBRD116
The ARB Air Locker for Dana 44 30-Spline Axles gives builders selectable traction without giving up normal open-differential operation. With the locker disengaged, the differential allows normal differentiation between the wheels. Activate the Air Locker from the dash and pneumatic pressure locks both axle shafts together for maximum traction in rocks, mud, loose climbs, and other low-traction terrain.
Designed for compatible Dana 44 applications with 30-spline axle shafts and 3.92-and-up gear ratios, this locker uses a one-piece nodular iron differential case and forged nickel-alloy steel internal components. It can be used in front or rear axle applications where the required Dana 44 carrier, spline, gear-ratio, and ring-gear-bolt specifications are met.
Includes:
- (1) ARB Dana 44 Air Locker Differential
- (1) Dash-Mounted Activation Switch
- (1) Solenoid Valve
- Air Line
- Bulkhead Fitting
Required: An ARB-compatible air compressor is required for operation and is sold separately.

Fitment
Axle Fitment:
- Dana 44 axle
- 30-spline axle shafts
- 3.92-and-up gear ratios
- Compatible front or rear Dana 44 applications
- Some Chrysler 8.25" applications using the specified Dana 44-style differential configuration
Ring Gear Bolt Notes:
- Some OEM Dana 44 and Chrysler applications use 3/8", 7/16", or 1/2" ring gear bolts.
- The Air Locker flange holes may require drilling or reaming when used with 7/16" or 1/2" ring gear bolts.
- Verify ring gear bolt diameter before installation.
Common Applications:
- Jeep TJ / Wrangler Dana 44
- Jeep Cherokee and Comanche Dana 44 applications
- Ford Bronco and F-Series Dana 44 applications
- Chevrolet and GMC Dana 44 front axles
- Dodge truck and Ramcharger Dana 44 applications
- Custom off-road axles using compatible Dana 44 components
Fitment Notes:
- Do not determine fitment by vehicle year, make, and model alone.
- Verify axle platform, 30-spline shaft configuration, 3.92-and-up carrier break, and ring gear bolt size before ordering.
- Vehicle applications can contain different axle assemblies from the factory or may have been swapped during the life of the vehicle.
- An ARB-compatible air compressor is required and sold separately.
FAQ
What Dana 44 axles does this ARB Air Locker fit?
This locker is designed for compatible Dana 44 axles using 30-spline axle shafts and 3.92-and-up gear ratios. Verify the actual axle and differential specifications before ordering rather than relying only on vehicle application.
How does the ARB Dana 44 Air Locker work?
With the locker disengaged, the differential operates open and allows the wheels to rotate at different speeds. When activated, compressed air engages the locking mechanism and locks both axle shafts together for maximum traction.
Can this Air Locker be used in a front or rear Dana 44?
Yes. It can be used in compatible front or rear Dana 44 applications as long as the axle uses the required 30-spline configuration, carrier break, and ring gear hardware.
Do I need to modify the locker for different ring gear bolt sizes?
Possibly. The supplied application information notes that some Dana 44 and Chrysler applications use 7/16" or 1/2" ring gear bolts. The Air Locker flange holes may need to be drilled or reamed to match those larger bolts.
Does the ARB Air Locker require an air compressor?
Yes. The locker is pneumatically actuated and requires an ARB-compatible air compressor. The switch, solenoid, air line, and bulkhead fitting are included, but the compressor is sold separately.
