The Sanderson BB1 Big Block Chevy Block Hugger Headers are engineered for custom vehicles where frame, steering, suspension, and ground clearance leave little room for a conventional exhaust system. Designed for Chevrolet 396 through 502 big block engines, the compact BB1 layout sits approximately 2" tighter to the engine than traditional block hugger designs and extends less than 11" below the exhaust port centerline.
Constructed from 16-gauge steel tubing, these headers use 1-7/8" primary tubes and 3" collectors to support strong torque and exhaust flow across a wide range of Big Block Chevy combinations. Sanderson's 3/8" patented flange design is built to seal directly against the cylinder head without traditional header gaskets, helping reduce leak points and simplify installation.
An optional professionally TIG-welded V-band upgrade is available for builders who want a compact, serviceable collector connection with improved sealing and easier exhaust removal.

What makes the Sanderson BB1 different from a standard block hugger header?
The BB1 is designed to sit approximately 2" tighter to the engine than many traditional block hugger headers. This creates additional clearance around narrow frame rails, steering shafts, suspension components, and other chassis structures.
Why is ground clearance important on a Big Block Chevy swap?
Many headers hang low beneath the engine, making the collectors vulnerable to speed bumps, rocks, trail obstacles, and road impacts. The BB1 extends less than 11" below the exhaust port centerline, helping keep the exhaust tucked closer to the engine and chassis.
Are 1-7/8" primary tubes suitable for a Big Block Chevy?

How does the gasketless flange design work?
