External fuel pumps are easy to service, simple to install on custom chassis, and eliminate the need for modifying many fuel tanks. They are commonly used in off-road, race, and LS swap applications where custom fuel plumbing is required.
The Walbro GSL392 is commonly capable of supporting naturally aspirated gasoline engines up to approximately 550 horsepower when paired with the proper injectors, fuel pressure, regulator, wiring, and fuel system components.
For maximum reliability, install a 100-micron pre-filter before the pump and a 10-micron post-filter after the pump to protect both the pump and fuel injectors.
EFI fuel pumps require consistent voltage under load. Supplying power through a dedicated relay with adequate wire size helps maximize fuel pump performance while reducing voltage drop.
The foam isolation sleeve helps reduce vibration and operating noise while protecting the pump from shock loads commonly encountered in rigid off-road chassis. Proper mounting also contributes to longer pump life.
