The 160 Degree LS Engine Coolant Thermostat provides a lower-temperature thermostat option for performance, off-road, and custom cooling systems. Built with stainless steel construction, a copper casing, and a wax-actuated valve, it is designed for consistent coolant control and includes a rubber sealing ring for installation.

The 160°F opening temperature allows coolant circulation to begin earlier than with a higher-temperature thermostat, making it a common choice for high-performance engines and off-road vehicles operating under demanding loads. Integrated bleed notches and a jiggle-pin weep hole help evacuate trapped air during cooling-system filling, while the thermostat is a direct match for our WA01000LS -16 LS Thermostat Housing, WA01000LT -16 LT Thermostat Housing, and WA01001LS -20 LS Thermostat Housing.

Includes:

  • (1) 160°F Engine Coolant Thermostat
  • (1) Rubber Thermostat Seal

Fitment

Compatible WOD Thermostat Housings:

Common Applications:

  • LS-powered off-road vehicles
  • LT-powered off-road vehicles with compatible housing
  • Rock crawlers and rock bouncers
  • Trail buggies and custom tube chassis builds
  • Performance cooling systems
  • Custom engine swap applications

Fitment Notes:

  • Verify thermostat dimensions and housing compatibility before installation when used outside the listed WOD thermostat housings.
  • Includes the required rubber thermostat seal.
  • Thermostat orientation and sealing surfaces should be checked during installation.
  • Properly bleed the cooling system after installation to remove trapped air.
  • A 160°F thermostat does not guarantee a 160°F engine operating temperature. Actual coolant temperature depends on the complete cooling system, engine load, airflow, fan control, radiator capacity, and operating conditions.

FAQ

What does a 160 degree thermostat do?

A 160°F thermostat begins opening at a lower coolant temperature than a higher-temperature thermostat, allowing coolant to begin circulating through the radiator earlier. It does not force the engine to continuously operate at exactly 160°F.

Will a 160 degree thermostat make my engine run cooler?

It can allow the cooling system to begin circulating coolant earlier, but actual operating temperature is controlled by the complete cooling system. Radiator capacity, airflow, fan settings, water-pump performance, engine load, ambient temperature, and vehicle speed all affect final coolant temperature.

Does this thermostat fit the Wide Open Design LS thermostat housings?

Yes. This thermostat is compatible with the WA01000LS -16 LS Thermostat Housing and WA01001LS -20 LS Thermostat Housing. It is also compatible with the WA01000LT -16 LT Thermostat Housing.

What does the jiggle pin in the thermostat do?

The jiggle pin and bleed opening allow trapped air to pass through the thermostat during cooling-system filling and bleeding. Removing trapped air is especially important in custom cooling systems where radiator, engine, and hose placement can create high points in the system.

Is the thermostat seal included?

Yes. One rubber thermostat seal is included with the thermostat.
