The WOD 1410 Driveshaft DIY Builder Kit is designed for builders who need more strength than a traditional 1350 driveline while maintaining excellent operating angles and articulation. Built with genuine Spicer 1410 driveline components, this kit allows fabricators to build a custom-length front or rear driveshaft matched to the vehicle's wheelbase, suspension travel, axle position, and drivetrain configuration.

For many one-ton Jeep builds, rock crawlers, Ultra4 cars, trail buggies, and high-horsepower off-road vehicles, the 1410 series offers an excellent balance of strength, weight, serviceability, and component availability. It provides increased torque and shock-load capacity over a 1350 without the additional size and rotating weight of a 1480 system, making it a popular middle-ground choice for serious off-road use.

Why choose a 1410 driveshaft?

The 1410 series offers more torque and shock-load capacity than a 1350 while retaining strong articulation characteristics and lower rotating weight than a 1480. For many one-ton Jeeps, rock crawlers, trail buggies, and Ultra4 vehicles, it provides an effective balance between strength, driveline angle capability, weight, and serviceability.

Is a 1410 driveshaft stronger than a 1350?

Yes. The 1410 uses a wider universal joint than the 1350, increasing leverage and load capacity across the joint. The finished system is still limited by the complete driveline, including the welds, tubing, yokes, slip assembly, operating angles, and mounting hardware.

What driveshaft tubing is recommended?

Many off-road builders use 2.5" OD x .250" wall DOM tubing because it offers strong resistance to dents, torsional deformation, and rock damage. Final tubing selection should also consider driveshaft length, operating RPM, critical speed, vehicle weight, and available clearance.

Can I weld the driveshaft without balancing it afterward?

No. Even a carefully welded shaft can have runout or weight imbalance. A completed driveshaft should be checked for straightness and professionally balanced before operation to reduce vibration and protect bearings, seals, transfer-case outputs, and pinion components.

How much slip travel should the driveshaft have?

The required slip travel depends on suspension geometry and axle movement. The slip yoke must remain safely engaged at full droop while retaining enough compression travel to prevent bottoming out at full suspension compression.

The 1480 series is generally reserved for the heaviest vehicles, largest tires, highest horsepower, or most severe shock-load applications.
