Project: The Redneck Rocket Ship | Defying Gravity
Supercharged Chaos meets Billet Precision.
The "Redneck Rocket Ship" isn't a name—it’s a mission statement. When Wide Open Design set out to build this custom chassis, the goal wasn't just to make it fast; it was to make it unbreakable. In the world of high-horsepower hill climbing, parts are usually considered "consumables." This rig was built to change that narrative.
The Heart of the Beast:
The soundtrack for this build is provided by a Supercharged LS powerplant, a setup that offers instantaneous, violent torque. To manage that heat and power, we integrated a Griffin 31x15.5 radiator and a WOD custom stainless exhaust. Shifting is handled by a race-prepped TH400 with an Art Carr/Winters shifter, sending power through an Atlas transfer case to some of the beefiest driveshafts we've ever fabricated.
The "Industrial-Strength" Drivetrain:
The axles are where this Rocket Ship truly leaves the atmosphere. We started with Crane 14-Bolt housings featuring massive 3.5" tubes with 1/2" walls. We didn't stop there. We ran Ouverson Spindles and Hubs with 47-spline outer shafts. To put that in perspective: most "hardcore" rigs run 35 or 40-spline. This is the kind of hardware you find in monster trucks.
Chassis & Suspension:
The suspension is a work of art in 7075 Billet Aluminum. Featuring 7075 Billet Trailing Arms and Radflo 3" 5-Tube Bypass shocks, this rig is designed to soak up massive landings without blowing through the travel. Whether it's the QA1 1-1/4" rod ends or the WOD Hydroboost braking, every single component was chosen because it's the absolute best in the business.
